💠 Exercise guide

The kneeling high pulley row is a powerful exercise for strengthening the rear shoulders and mid-back. By emphasizing the rear deltoids and the scapular stabilizers, it improves muscular balance, shoulder stability, and movement control. The kneeling position allows greater focus on the target muscles without placing extra stress on the lower back.

💠 How to perform the exercise

Kneeling Cable Row

Preparation

✅ Attach a rope to the high pulley of the cable machine.

✅ Get into a half-kneeling position (one knee on the ground, the other leg forward).

✅ Grip the rope with both hands, palms facing each other.

Execution method

✅ Pull the rope toward your body, opening your elbows out to the sides.

✅ Pause at the top, maintaining tension on the rear deltoids and shoulder blades.

✅ Slowly and with control, return the rope to the starting position.

Coaching tips and recommendations

✔ Keep your torso stable and avoid unnecessary body movement.

✔ Maintain a natural elbow path without flaring excessively.

✔ Use an appropriate weight to preserve full range of motion and proper form.

✔ Perform the movement in a controlled manner and avoid jerking the rope.

Benefits of the exercise

1️⃣ Strengthens the rear deltoids and upper back muscles
2️⃣ Improves shoulder stability and control, reducing injury risk
3️⃣ Enhances muscular balance between the front and back of the body
4️⃣ Helps improve posture and prevents rounded shoulders
5️⃣ Provides constant tension thanks to the cable system
6️⃣ Boosts performance in sports such as swimming, boxing, bodybuilding, and CrossFit
7️⃣ Suitable for all fitness levels, from beginner to advanced
8️⃣ Increases shoulder mobility and reduces movement limitations
9️⃣ Excellent upper-body strengthening exercise without complex equipment
🔟 Enhances neuromuscular coordination in pulling movements

Deltoid Muscle

Deltoideus Muscle

🔹 The deltoid muscle is one of the most important and voluminous muscles of the shoulder region. Its primary function is to move the arm in various directions and stabilize the shoulder joint. Due to its triangular shape, it is named “deltoid,” derived from the Greek word “Δέλτα” (delta), meaning triangle.

🔹 The deltoid muscle is divided into three distinct heads, each playing a specific role in shoulder movement. The anterior head assists in forward motions and arm flexion, the middle head is responsible for abduction and lifting the arm, and the posterior head supports extension and movements behind the body. This muscle is essential for the stability and strength of the shoulder joint, and its weakness can lead to limited range of motion, reduced shoulder power, and an increased risk of injury.

Infraspinatus Muscle

Infraspinatus Muscle

🔹 The infraspinatus muscle is one of the four key rotator cuff muscles, playing a crucial role in stabilizing and controlling the shoulder joint. It is essential for external rotation of the arm and maintaining shoulder joint stability.

🔹 This muscle is actively engaged in many athletic movements such as throwing, pulling weights, and rotational shoulder actions. Weakness in the infraspinatus can lead to shoulder joint instability, reduced range of motion, and an increased risk of injuries like rotator cuff tendon tears.

Trapezius muscle

Trapezius Muscle

The trapezius muscle is one of the most important superficial back muscles, extending from the occipital region to the middle of the back. It plays a key role in shoulder movements, scapular stabilization, and neck motions. Strengthening this muscle improves shoulder endurance, reduces neck pain, and enhances overall posture.
